There are many practices that can be incorporated in the process of becoming mindful. Writing or keeping a mindfulness journal is a great way to slow down, connect with your inner thoughts and feelings; it can help clarify what is holding you back and what you can do to inspire change. Here are a few prompts to get you started.

Remember to be gentle with yourself. Mindfulness takes time and cannot be created instantly. Look at writing as a process of discovery and try not to get caught up in expectations or perfection.

Every bud reveals its beauty when it is ready to bloom.

WHAT IS YOUR STORY

  • What is your current story? How has it changed from the past? Is this the story you want to be living?

  • Who are the people you spend the most time with and how do they affect your life?

  • If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW

  • What is the next thing you want to learn?

  • What does success mean to you? You can substitute success with words like love, truth, joy, wisdom.

  • What are some questions you have about spirituality?

WHAT ARE MY BELIEFS

  • Instead of focusing on goal setting, explore what beliefs or values are important to you.

  • Choose things that have meaning to you personally such as love, joy, faith, spirituality, authenticity, abundance, etc. and ask yourself why these beliefs are so meaningful.

GRATITUDE

  • List 5 things you are grateful for and describe what they add to your life

  • If you are struggling to find anything you are grateful for, start with simple things like your favourite song and how it makes you feel when you hear it or how you feel when you drink your favourite cup of tea. Gratitude can help to generate hopefulness and allows us to recognize the gifts we have.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE

  • List things you think you should do and why. Then, list the opposite: what you shouldn’t do and why.

  • Is there a way you would like to serve in the world and what is that?

  • Is there something blocking you from creating the life you aspire to?

Writing is a wonderful way to focus your attention and thoughts onto any topic you may choose. Encourage yourself to get into routine, create a habit and set yourself free of limitations when you sit down with your pen and journal.
