THE MINDFUL JOURNEY
Exploring the path of mindfulness is an individual journey - make it your own practice.
One way to begin is to start with the practice of mindfulness meditation. There are several ways to meditate mindfully. See which one fits for you.
4 WAYS TO PRACTICE MINDFULNESS MEDITATION
Mindfulness meditation is one form of meditation. Its purpose is to teach us to be present in the moment and to become aware of who we truly are. By paying attention to our bodies, breath and thoughts we can gain insight into our own wisdom and be more at ease in the world.
Explore different types of meditation practices to enhance your discovery of mindfulness:
BODY SCAN MEDITATION
By lying down and staying still, you can focus on the sensations in your body. Over time, you will learn to identify experiences and feelings in the present moment. Come back to your breath and simply notice the sensations as they roll in.
MOVEMENT MEDITATION
Through practices such as yoga, walking or any movement-centred practice, attention is focused inwards to see where tension or anxiety is being held. Let the movement be your meditation - your focus and your purpose. The goal is to release your thoughts as you bring your awareness to each movement.
MINDFUL BREATHING
By focusing attention on the cycle of your breath, you come into the present moment. With your mind’s eye, watch your inhales and exhales, evening and lengthening out each side of the breath as you get deeper into your practice. Pausing the mind creates an opportunity to observe what you are experiencing and lets you refocus your attention.
MINDFUL SOUND
Just as breath can be used to focus, sound can also be used as a way to stay in the moment. Being in nature or listening to music is a beautiful way to practice this type of meditation as each sound brings you back again and again to your center.
